Snow showers continue off and on, cold pattern remains

There is a Winter Weather Advisory in place for the Cascades until 4 am Thursday.  This includes the east face of the range and the cities of La Pine, Sunriver, Lava Butte and Sisters.  The snow will be more robust along the crest of the Cascades, but still fall in the lower elevations and accumulate to about 2 – 4”.   The mountain passes will, once again, be compromised by the snow so please prepare properly for the snow and the wind.  Winds will be more noticeable today and Thursday adding to the visibility issues in some locations. An updated Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect starting Thursday at 4 and linger into Friday afternoon. The area east of the blue line is the recently added advisory.

Thursday will start out with dry and cold conditions, but as the day moves along there will be more snow.  The snow will return late in the afternoon or early evening and persist into the early morning or pre-dawn hours of Friday. This will be widespread and the evening commute Thursday will be impacted, as well as the morning commute Friday.

The snow early Friday should be the last of the organized snowfall in the region for a few days.  Saturday will see a brief line of snow showers early in the day then dry out.  Sunday will be dry, but the other winter feature that has been with us this week, the cold, will persist.

The region will continue to stay about 10 or 15 degrees below normal each afternoon, struggling to get to 30°.  Overnight lows will dip into the teens and single digits for the next several days keeping the snow from melting and the roads from drying completely.

There may be a passing snow shower on Tuesday, but generally next week will be defined by the cold pattern in place.

Please stay safe.
