Hot weekend ahead, Local Alert Weather Day Monday

The ridge of high pressure we have been watching build over the Pacific is making a move inland.  The mercury in the thermometer will top out in the 90s for the next three or four days as a result.  This will be the first run of persistent hot weather this season and, although not overly oppressive, it will be uncomfortably hot.

The highs over the weekend will be in the low 90s in the Bend and Redmond area under mostly sunny skies.  The air will be dry so not much in the way of cloud cover is expected, allowing the sun to heat us up quickly. The high sun angle and the length of day are also contributing to the hot pattern.

After the 90-degree day on Saturday, we will follow that up Sunday a couple of degrees warmer. Sunday will be mostly sunny with highs in the low 90s once again. The winds do not seem to be much of a factor, staying below the 10mph range this weekend.  The humidity is also expected to be low, so there will not be much difference between the actual temperatures and the heat index.

Monday will be the hottest day of this stretch of 90-degree weather as we are likely to reach the middle 90s. Some isolated storms are possible south and east of the Tri-counties, but a rogue cell may drift north.  Dry lightning is always a concern this time of year, and especially after such a dry and hot run.

We have issued a Local Alert Weather Day for Monday for the Hot Weather. The Afternoon temperatures will be in the middle to upper 90s, heat index may be a couple degrees hotter. This will be the third day in row of 90+ heat so be advised that it will be taking a toll. Stay safe, out of the heat, cool off frequently and if you are working Monday, take frequent breaks.
Never leave kids or pets in a vehicle, not even for a minute.

Remember to stay hydrated and keep out of the sun as much as you can this weekend.

Never leave kids or pets in a car when you go into a store during the summer.  The inside of your vehicle heats up extremely fast, to deadly results.

The record high in Bend for June 7th is 92 set back in 1926, and the record for Sunday the 8th is 90 set in 2016, according the Nowcast of the National Weather Service. We may be re-writing the books over the weekend.

Please stay safe.
