Local Alert Day Friday for dangerous lightning and brief heavy rain

Friday afternoon will bring showers and storms to the region with brief heavy rain and abundant lightning. This will not be an all-day event, but around drive time Friday a line of storms is expected to develop across Central Oregon. If you are heading home early for the weekend and want to get in a quick walk or ride in the evening, check the KTVZ weather app for any updates. Some models are expecting this to be more of a mountain event, but a few are not, so in order to keep you safe and informed, we are issuing an Alert Day for Friday afternoon and early evening.

We issue these Local Alert Days when we feel weather will be negatively impacting your day. You may want to adjust your schedule based on this information.

The NWS has issued a Red Flag Warning and Fire Weather watch due to the stormy pattern expected. Lightning sparked wildfires are possible Friday afternoon and evening.

As we all know, weather is a fickle friend here in Central Oregon, so be advised that there is a chance for some robust storms Friday. In fact, there may be even more widespread activity Monday as we will start off the new work week wet, rainy and stormy.
