Dry and mild to start the week, rain likely late in the week

(KTVZ, Bend Ore.) The new work week is starting out dry and mild with highs in the 60s today then slightly warmer Tuesday.  The early portion of the week is expected to be quiet, followed by a wet and chilly pattern as we get to the weekend.

Highs in the 70s are likely Tuesday and Wednesday as a dome of high pressure maintains a presence. The high will allow for plenty of sunshine today and Tuesday. The battle between the cold and rainy pattern will begin Thursday.

Wednesday will be similar to Tuesday as temps in the 70s and mostly sunny skies prevail. Normal highs this time of year are closer to the low 60 verses the low 70 so we once again are getting a warmer than normal pattern.  This will, of course, change as the week moves along.

Thursday will start the changing as highs will be in the middle 60s and a few clouds arrive. The winds will be noticeable but not overwhelming and arrive from the southwest, so we maintain the above normal temperatures. Thursday is the day of transition.

Friday will start out mostly cloudy ahead of a widespread rain event. The rain will begin around noon and linger overnight. The temperatures are warm enough to support only rain, not snow, but the Cascades may start to see a transition to a wintry mix after sunset. The High Desert also has a chance for a mix of ran and snow overnight into Saturday, but little to no accumulation of snow is likely. The ground is not frozen yet, so only grassy areas will see slushy, wet snow build. Roads will be wet and slick in pockets.

The rainy pattern returns Saturday, but this round will be cooler and a mix of rain and snow is more likely. The rain and mountain snow will continue off and on through at least Monday as the area will see waves or impulses of moisture move across the Pacific Northwest.

This weekend will be wet, and possibly some snow in some areas at night, but we will fine tune this forecast as we get closer to the events.
