Clouds return, rain likely Friday, wintry mix this weekend

(KTVZ, Bend Ore.) The pattern remains on the mild and dry side as highs today hit the upper 60s and a few low 70s. Normal temperatures for mid to late October is around 60 degrees, so we have continued the above normal trend.

Changing pattern as we move forward toward the weekend. The skies will be cloudy by late Thursday afternoon ahead of the rainy day Friday. Highs on Thursday are still above normal, reaching the upper 60s, even with the late day cloud cover.

Friday is the advent of the rainy day with showers arriving from the west in the middle to late afternoon.  Since the temperatures are still well above freezing, this first wave of moisture will be all rain. The rain will be stead and continue into the evening.

Saturday will see off and on rain showers that are likely to mingle with some snow. The mountains will see a wintry mix around sunrise that will taper off by mid-morning.  The mountain passes are likely to be slick and travel to the valley will take longer than usual due to the weather conditions.

Saturday afternoon will be cloudy and this is when we see the rain and snow mix a little over the high desert. As we get past sunset, we will see a bit more snow mingling with the rain, but still not enough to cover the roads. Grassy areas and elevated surfaces may see some light accumulation, but nothing substantial.

Sunday will start out with a mix of snow and rain that will continue through the day. Light rain and very little snow will define our Sunday. Travel is not expected to be overly taxed by the mix of rain and snow, but we need to be cautious on area roads.

Current forecast models have the rain and snow ending overnight into Monday. The morning commute may be impacted by some lingering wet roads.

Monday will see some clearing ahead of a couple of days with dry and crisp conditions. Highs Monday and Tuesday will be around 50 degrees.
