Light mountain snow and slight chances for rain this week

Bend, OR (KTVZ) -

Rain chances in the high desert are pretty slim this week as the majority of the precipitation is focused further north. Our region is on the edge of where the main event is happening. Jefferson County will have the best chance for rain this week, but don’t stress about a wash out for your holiday plans–that won’t happen.

This morning, you could see a few flakes falling with early morning temperatures in the teens and 20s. A bigger nuisance will be frosted windshields.

Temperatures today will be in the 40s under variably cloudy skies and the chance for a stray shower.

Temperatures heat into mid week, so any hope for snowflakes in the Tri-Counties pretty much disappears. Look for highs to be in the low to mid 50s mid week with cooler temperature over the weekend.

Rain will mostly stay to the north Wednesday and Thursday, but the chance for a few stray showers is possible. Again, Jefferson County is in the best position to see rain. Rain should start tapering off by early Friday.

Light mountain snow will fall this week but only a few inches are expected, so travel through the passes shouldn't be too bad. You could run into slick spots, but there is no worry of heavy snow.

Happy Tuesday. Safe travel this week.
