Cloudy with spotty showers today, tapering off heading into the weekend

KTVZ

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Cloudy skies and spotty showers define the day as there is another round of light rain across the region. West of the Cascades, in the Valley, more robust rain is falling, but east of the mountains only stray showers are likely. There is some light snow falling across the Cascades and we are happy to report a little bit of snow at Bachelor.

Snow Stake at 11 am Thursday on Mt. Bachelor

Temperatures today should stay below 50° due to the spotty rain and cloud cover but will pass that mark over the weekend.

Friday will be mostly cloudy with a possible stray shower in the pre-dawn or early morning hours. The skies will stay cloudy until late in the afternoon, but there will be a warm flow from the south that will help the mercury rise into the 50s.

Saturday will be a dry and mild day as the clouds move away and any moisture in the region will be west or north of Central Oregon. Highs get into the middle and upper 50s.

Sunday brings back the slight chance for a rogue shower under mostly cloudy skies. Highs will be slightly cooler, in the low 50s, but that is still above our normal middle 40s for this time of year in the area.

Groundhog Day is Monday and we should see a partly cloudy day with highs near 50 which is just slightly cooler. Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be dry and mild with highs in the middle 50s.

Remember, if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, he gets frightened and scurries back into his burrow. That means we are expected to see six more weeks of winter. If he comes out on a cloudy day and stays out for a spell, we are expected to get an early spring.  The Vernal Equinox, the first day of the Astronomical Spring, is on March 20th this year at 7:46 am. Just a few days past the “six weeks of winter” possible claim by the prognosticating rodent.  Just sayin’.

Please, Stay safe.
