Mountain snow on this Valentine’s Day, cold rain across the high desert
Expect to see some mountain snow to continue today with a couple of inches expected across the Cascades. Accumulations across the Cascades will be in the 2 – 3” range by the end of this first round today. At lower elevations across the high desert a mix of cold rain off and on today, and some light snow after the sun goes down is likely. The rain will be spotty and off and on as a cold front arrives today and stall out to stationary the rest of the weekend. It will be cold enough overnight to provide some light snow, but generally the rain to wintry mix will define this Valentine’s Day.
Sunday will be mostly cloudy with a brief break from the rain and wintry mix. The mountains will get more snow, but generally light amounts. Sunday is the day between holidays, and it will also be the day between the rain. Highs Sunday will be in the middle 40s, same as Saturday, only with little to no moisture to squeeze out.
Monday is President’s Day and there is another round of rain and wintry mix planned. Highs will be slightly cooler and the advent of the precipitation will be later in the day. This will be the best chance for us to get some light snow across the high desert as the temperatures will be in the 30s when the rain/snow begins.
The mountains are in line for about 3 – 5” of new snow Monday, so those who enjoy riding the snow will have fresh snow to work with.
Tuesday will see an end to the rainy and snowy pattern for a couple days but a few flakes are still possible during the day. Highs will only reach the upper 30s both Tuesday and Wednesday under partly to mostly cloudy skies.
Variably cloudy and chilly conditions will be present on Thursday with highs near 40 once again. Friday will be cloudy with a passing flurries in the afternoon.
