Camp Fire C. Oregon names new director
Camp Fire Central Oregon is pleased to announce Kecia Kubota as its new Executive Director.
After 20 years in the business sector, Kubota is thrilled to return to her passion for youth development. She holds a master’s degree in International and Intercultural Management with an emphasis in Training and Human Resource Development. Kubota began her new position at Camp Fire Central Oregon on October 30.
For the last two years, Kubota has been a Creative Business Coach,helping entrepreneurs and small business owners discover how to make their passion a viable, sustainable, and profitable venture.
Prior to that, she spent 10 years in the photography industry working alongside her brother to grow his business from three people in the garage to a 25-employee, multi-million dollar company.
As Executive Director of Camp Fire Central Oregon, Kubota will employ her collaborative style of leadership to oversee an organization with an almost century-long legacy in the Central Oregon community. Kubota looks forward to applying her business expertise to Camp Fire Central Oregon—to revitalize the organization, grow its programs, and expand its outreach in the community.
“One of my first priorities is to recruit additional Board Members to provide governance over the organization who are just as passionate about youth development and the mission of Camp Fire as the staff is,” says Kubota. “I am excited to work with the Board to define a strategic vision for the next three years that will retain Camp Fire’s relevance to young people. There are some incredible programs being offered by Camp Fire around the country in the areas of health, safety, environmental stewardship, and leadership that we are excited to bring here to our community in the coming year.”
Founded in 1916, Camp Fire Central Oregon now serves about 500 youth and adults in the Central Oregon community. The nonprofit youth development organization offers weekly after-school programs; monthly family-friendly Camp Fire Connects events, partnering with other local community organizations; annual summer camps; and leadership development and skill-building workshops for boys and girls ages 4 to 21.
Camp Fire is one of the nation’s leading nonprofit youth development agencies, currently serving nearly 750,000 participants annually. Founded in 1910 as “Camp Fire Girls,” the contemporary, coeducational Camp Fire provides all-inclusive, age-appropriate, outcome- and research-based programs in hundreds of communities across the United States. Camp Fire’s programs, including small group experiences, after-school programs, camping, environmental education, and service learning, build confidence in younger children and deliver hands-on, youth-driven leadership experiences for older youth.
