Matthew Draxton

Anchor / Multimedia Journalist
Matthew Draxton joined the KTVZ News team in November 2023 as a multimedia journalist, bringing a deep commitment to sharing the stories that impact Central Oregonians the most. As of October 2024, he has joined the anchor desk as part of the KTVZ News at Sunrise team.
As a graduate of Political Science, with a concentration in Global Politics and minor in Ethnic Studies, from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo, Matthew brings a wealth of knowledge in research and writing that lead him to journalism.
Matthew was nominated for the 2023 Undergraduate Research Paper Award and was fortunate enough to graduate with a research publication in Cal Poly’s research journal, the Paideia Journal of Political Science.
Matthew's passion for writing started in his early childhood, from writing creative stories and sharing those stories with loved-ones at family events that manifested into a passion for research during his college career. The passion for research and journalism are rooted in his desire to find answers to problems and feed his curiosity about the world.
Matthew's recent live reporting during the 2024 wildfires and investigative reporting into the shortcomings of residential care facilities, consumer protection violations, and local politics exemplifies his ability in fostering a strong and informed community rooted in the voices and experiences of the Central Oregonians.
Matthew strives to provide a voice to those who have often been neglected, and to provide accurate, unbiased information that empowers viewers to make informed decisions.
In his free time, Matthew can be found taking part in my favorite activities such as hiking, running, and kayaking with his Australian Shepherd.
