Bend man killed, another seriously injured in Highway 31 pickup rollover crash
(Update: OSP corrects that passenger, not driver was killed)
KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. (KTVZ) -- One Bend man was killed and another seriously injured in the rollover crash of a pickup truck Sunday morning on state Highway 31 south of La Pine, Oregon State Police said.
Troopers responded shortly after 10 a.m. to the crash near milepost 12 in Klamath County.
Their preliminary investigation found that Roland Lea Buckman, 56, of Bend, was heading south at the wheel of a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup when he lost control and it slid off the road.
Troopers said the driver's-side tires caught in the ditch and the pickup rolled before going airborne and coming to rest in a tree.
A passenger in the pickup, Randy Laverne Samples, 62, also of Bend, died at the scene.
Buckman suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
The crash affected highway traffic for about three hours during the on-scene investigation.
"Roadway conditions and speed are considered primary factors in the crash," OSP said in a news release.
Troopers were assisted by ODOT crews at the crash scene.
