REDMOND, Ore, (KTVZ) -- With the impacts of COVID-19, it is no surprise that nonprofit organizations like NeighborImpact have experienced an increased need for volunteers. NeighborImpact has been fortunate to witness the generosity of the Central Oregon community as volunteers step up to meet the increasing need. Even before the health crisis, however, NeighborImpact reported a significant increase in volunteering.

During the 2019 calendar year, NeighborImpact engaged 1,722 volunteers for a total of 25,640 hours of volunteering, 43 and 30 percent increases respectively. The programs engaging the most volunteers include the Food Bank and NeighborImpact's Head Start program.

NeighborImpact recently hired a volunteer coordinator who is helping to focus the organization's volunteer efforts. Just before the pandemic hit, NeighborImpact launched a volunteer management software platform which has been instrumental in managing and organizing the influx of volunteer numbers and opportunities. The organization hopes to report an even greater increase in volunteer numbers this year.
