REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- On Monday, June 8, the Redmond Public Works Department, in partnership with the Oregon Department of Transportation, will begin a major maintenance project on the Maple Avenue Bridge.

The work includes repair of the concrete deck expansion joints and a complete epoxy wear course surfacing of the bridge.  Crews will be taking advantage of the forecast warmer weather and ideal construction temperatures to complete these critical maintenance activities.

“We would have preferred to do this work while traffic counts were lower these last few months,” said Brad Haynes, Transportation Division manager, “but the materials being used require temperatures to be sustained at 40 degrees and rising to ensure they cure properly.”

Daily single lane closures will occur on NW Maple Avenue from NW Rimrock Drive to NW Canyon Drive (Maple Avenue Bridge), Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Motorists and pedestrians should expect delays of less than 20 minutes, with flaggers and a pilot car providing traffic control.  Emergency service vehicles will be given priority through the work zone.

Project completion is anticipated by Thursday, July 2, weather permitting.

Bridge maintenance activities are planned and budgeted to occur every 10 years to preserve the structural and aesthetic integrity of this important community asset.

The Maple Avenue Bridge is an arterial route of travel between east and west Redmond, so please consider construction delays when planning your commute across the bridge.

Safety is always a priority for the public, as well as construction workers and flaggers. Motorists should use caution as they travel through construction zones or use an alternate route.
