The Giving Plate expands ‘Kids Korner’ food bank to Christmas Valley
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Giving Plate in Bend is extending their "plate" to North Lake County and bringing a Kids Korner to that region. The founders, Gary and Debi Kelso, now reside in Christmas Valley and wanted to help the community with this supplemental children's food relief program.
The North Lake County Health District has a building site next to Flowerree Park that the Kelsos have painted and set up for the new pantry.
Kids Korner is a warm, welcoming, fun, shopping-style pantry decorated with Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the Gang! However until COVID restrictions are lifted, hearty pre=made bags will be handed out.
Christmas Valley, Fort Rock, Silver Lake and surrounding areas with children up to age 18 will be able to receive their own food every Saturday from 11-2, which will include a freshly made sandwich.
Currently in Bend, Kids Korner is adding an average of 400 kid bags a week to the food boxes. We anticipate serving an average of 70 kids a week to start. Our hearts are wanting children to thrive. And we clearly know that nutritional food is critical for the health and well-being of children.
We are an independently founded 501-c-3 nonprofit, having served the Bend area for over 10 years, giving out 4.7 million lbs. of food. We are excited how the community is supporting this new program and look forward to our Grand Opening on October 31st!
