BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Bend-based Street Dog Hero announced Monday the successful completion of a record-breaking spay/neuter clinic in Chetumal, Mexico, where 948 dogs and cats received essential sterilization surgeries.

"This monumental achievement marks the highest number of animals spayed and neutered in a single clinic event in the organization's history," the organization said in a news release that continues in full below:

"We are absolutely blown away by the incredible support from our community," said Street Dog Hero Medical Manager Jaymie Friesner. "Thanks to the generosity and dedication of our supporters, we were able to make a significant impact in the fight against animal overpopulation. This was a true testament to what we can achieve when we come together for a shared cause."

The success of this clinic was not only the result of individual contributions but also the collaborative efforts of partners committed to animal welfare. Special thanks to Beach Dog Rescue, the entire Ester y Liza team, and Councilwoman Lidia Rojas Favro, whose commitment to spreading the word about the clinic played an essential role in its success.

The impact of these surgeries are massive. In just the first year, this program is expected to prevent around 11,644 unwanted births of dogs and cats living on the streets. By the fifth year, this number multiplies exponentially, reducing over 177 million births. This contributes significantly to the ongoing effort to curb animal homelessness and suffering on the streets of Mexico.

"Every sterilization makes a world of difference," Jaymie Friesner added. "By tackling overpopulation head-on, we are breaking the cycle of suffering for countless animals who face hunger, illness, and danger on the streets. Together, we are making strides toward a more humane future."

Street Dog Hero remains committed to its mission and looks forward to continuing its impactful work throughout the region and beyond. For more information about their initiatives and how you can help, please visit streetdoghero.org.
