‘It is the best deal in town’: Spin the wheel for a discount at HSCO’s Black Furday and Saturday adoption special

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Humane Society of Central Oregon was busy on Black Friday with families eager to find a new animal companion in time for the holidays.

The Humane Society of Central Oregon is having a “Black Furday and Saturday” adoption special. Adopters spin the wheel these two days for a discount of 25% to 100% off their adoption fee.

"It's a lot of fun -- and it's totally a game of chance, when you know you're already a winner because you're already bringing home your new family member," HSCO Director of Community Partnerships Lynne Ouchida said Friday.

Shannon Stubblefield adopted a kitten on Friday morning. She was looking forward to surprising her daughter Nevaeh with an early birthday gift.

"She thought we were Black Friday shopping, and I surprised her when we turned in. and she thought we're just going to come pet the kitties. And I told her that we're getting one very early birthday present." Stubblefield said.

One couple was excited to head home with brother kittens.

"Recently, in September, we lost a kitty to old age, and now we're looking for some furry friends," adopter Christine Morris said. "We thought taking home siblings would be better, so they'd have each other."

"This is the only Black Friday shopping we'll be doing," added Jim Morris.

The reduced fee is valid for all animals adopted on Friday and Saturday. It begins at 10 a.m., when the animal shelter doors open for adoptions.

All adoptions include the full adoption care package of spay or neuter, first vaccination, microchip ID, free health exam at a local veterinarian, collar, leash or carrying box, ID tag, and free food.

"It is the best deal in town." Ouchida said. "Black Friday is definitely one day that we get to highlight that adopting from the Humane Society is a bargain."

The Humane Society of Central Oregon is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 5:30 pm, closed Thanksgiving Day, Sunday and Monday. The shelter is located just south of Reed Market Road on 27th Street in Bend. For more information, call 541.382.3537 or view animals at hsco.org.
