Disturbing Details Revealed In Bend Rape Case

On Monday, 37-year-old Thomas Bray posted $40,000 bail and was released from the Deschutes County Jail after being charged with raping a 23-year-old Bend woman.

New court documents reveal details of the night in question.

According to the woman, she met Bray through an online dating site, match.com, and later agreed to meet him downtown for a drink — and the night was going smoothly. But according to the victim, it quickly turned violent, physical and frightening.

On Friday night, Bray met his date at Tart, on Minnesota and Bond Street, and after one drink decided to head back to his apartment at Franklin Crossing.

The woman reports they started drinking wine and Bray kept urging her to drink more until she started feeling “really drunk” and things started to get “fuzzy.” She says Bray may have switched their wine glasses.

The next thing the alleged victim remembers, Bray was throwing her on his bed and ripping off her clothes. She recalls being choked, hit in the head, and losing consciousness for a while.

The woman says Bray stopped, ate some cereal — and began sexually assaulting her again.

The alleged victim told police she was afraid to leave because she believed Bray would kill her. After a second assault hours later, she told Bray she was leaving, and then called police the morning after to report the rape.

The same morning, Bray reportedly went to COCC to teach one of his classes.

Police said they collected several items from Bray’s apartment, including black duct tape o the bedside table and prescription pain pills, anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medication.

The alleged victim’s undergarments and T-shirt were reportedly torn or ripped, and police say St. Charles Medical Center staff examined the woman and said she had been “hit and slapped a lot.”

Records say she requested prescribed antibiotics and an HIV medication, and was seeking help from a sexual assault agency.

The friend of the woman who was contacted moments after the assault told NewsChannel 21 Tuesday the woman is still traumatized by the event.

Bray posted the required 10 percent of his $400,000 bail Monday and is due back in court March 12.
