Special Beer Poured at Bend Fund-Raiser

Russian River Brewing out of Santa Rosa, Calif., releases Pliny the Younger, a triple IPA, only once a year. The beer goes to only select places in the Northwest and along the West Coast.

The Platypus Pub and the Brew Shop were lucky enough to get a barrel of the beer.

Early Sunday, they held a Russian River Pliny the Younger event. The $10 ticket was good for one 8-ounce glass of the special brew.

“They do very limited amounts of beer, its just a beautiful beer,” said Tom Gilles, co-owner of the Platypus Pub, said. “Part of it is fantastic marketing and a great beer all around.”

Around $700 was raised for the Humane Society of Central Oregon.

The owners said they wanted to choose a great local charity, and he and his partners are dog lovers.

The event also included a raffle for Russian River goods, including pint glasses and Pliny the Younger work shirts.
