Bend Community Radio Seeks Listener Support

KPOV, Bend’s only community radio station, relies on the community’s help to keep it in operation, and they’re still in need. All this week, they are asking for pledges.

Twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, they ask listeners to donate and become members.

For those who pledge, you can receive special items like a KPOV coffee mug or hat.

Recently, the station received higher power and a new place on the FM dial, 88.9.

Volunteers say every city should have a community radio station, as it’s a way for people to get involved.

It’s also an opportunity to share things the community doesn’t usually get.

“Without the donations from the community, we would have a hard time staying on the air,” said David Simpson, a DJ for KPOV. “We do need to be on the air, because we provide this service, with elections coming up.”

Simpson said the station will provide candidate interviews during the elections.

Along with a variety of music, KPOV, provides a lot of news and information programming.

The pledge-a-thon will end next Saturday at 6 p.m.
