Crowds Have ‘Blast’ at Bend’s High Desert Museum
What do you have planned for Spring Break with the kids? The High Desert Museum south of Bend has a suggestion and it has something do with fiery, frozen and explosive fun.
It’s the second annual Science Party, and this time, it’s focusing on fire and ice.
Museum staff invited the audience to look at extreme temperatures, how things burn and how things freeze including the three different states of matter: solids liquids and gases.
The show promises shooting flames and explosions — and for the audience, it seems like it didn’t disappoint.
“Science is educational and fun,” Dana Whitelaw, vice president of programs at the museum, said Sunday. “There is so many topics to be explored and related to the High Desert, so that’s what we are bringing into the Bird of Prey pavilion this week.”
Some of the questions answered during the 30-minute show include how does ethanol create energy to move rockets? How does gas from liquid nitrogen create explosions? How can you make hot ice?
The show runs through next Saturday, with two shows daily. one at 11 a.m. and the other at 1:30 p.m. The cost is $3 for members and $5 for non-members, plus museum admission.
