Eagle Point Man Dies After Police Use Stun Gun

KTVZ

Authorities say an Eagle Point man died shortly after a police officer shot him with an electrical charge from a stun gun.

The Mail Tribune reports (http://is.gd/SRNed0 ) that Jackson County sheriff’s investigators do not know if the stun gun charge caused the death of 44-year-old Scott Chappell. They will await autopsy results to see if there were other possible factors.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Andrea Carlson says an Eagle Point officer responding to a medical call on Tuesday used the stun gun to subdue Chappell while trying to take him to a vehicle for transport to a hospital.

Chappell was eventually placed in an ambulance and he stopped breathing on the way to the hospital.

Chappell was awaiting trial on multiple charges, including methamphetamine possession and assaulting a police officer.
