BLM extends Priest Hole public comment period

KTVZ

The Bureau of Land Management Prineville District Office announced that it will be extending the public comment period on the Priest Hole Site Plan Environmental Assessment until August 24.

“We’ve heard that some people didn’t realize this planning effort was taking place and we want to hear from them,” said Chip Faver, Prineville Field Manager. “We want to be responsive to the people who use this area, and select the improvements that will best meet their needs and improve their safety, while protecting the natural resources that make this area a unique place to visit.”

The public is asked to provide input on actions such as adding a second restroom, installing more defined campsites, closing some road access to the John Day River, moving camping away from the edge of the John Day River to help with waste and water quality issues, as well as converting some roads to trails, and installing a parking area.

The Environmental Assessment is available online under “Documents Currently under Review” at http://www.blm.gov/or/districts/prineville/plans/index.php or by requesting a paper copy from the Prineville District Office at (541) 416-6700. More information about the proposed actions can be found at http://www.blm.gov/or/districts/prineville/plans/priest.php.

All comments must be received in writing by the Prineville District Office by Friday, August 24. Comments can be mailed to: Prineville BLM, attn. Priest Hole Site Plan EA, 3050 N.E. 3rd Street, Prineville, OR 97754; by fax at (541) 416-6798, or by emailing the office at BLM_OR_PR_Mail@blm.gov with the words “Priest Hole Site Plan EA” in the subject line.
