Bend’s Flashback Cruz holds its own ‘olympics’
It’s labeled “Central Oregon’s Largest Car Event,” and the Flashback Cruz didn’t disappoint, with more than 400 cars participating this weekend.
The 27th annual Flashback Cruz was a three-day event presented by the Central Oregon Classic Chevy Club.
Club Chairperson Joan Spongberg calls the show ‘her baby’ because she works on it all year.
On Sunday, cars and drivers gathered at Riverfront Plaza to cruise to Mt. Bachelor for the “Car Olympics.”
Fifty cars participated in the games, which included include using a hockey stick to put a potato in a bucket — from inside the car.
“Kids can sit in the passenger seat and help dad or mom drive the car on the course,” Spongberg said. “Or try to put the potatoes in buckets and different things — it’s just a hoot.”
Spongberg said it’s a good, clean, respectable hobby.
The club will be having another car show at the Bethlehem Inn on Friday, August 24th from 5 to 8 p.m.
The show will be raising money for the homeless shelter and feeding the residents. Last year, the show raised more than $1,000s.
