A 17-year-old driver was found and arrested on felony hit-and-run and drunk driving charges Saturday after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash near Eagle Crest Resort that left a passenger in the other car with minor injuries, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies were dispatched around 6 p.m. to Cline Falls Highway just north of the resort, west of Redmond, on the reported crash, said Sgt. Troy Gotchy.

While en route to the scene, 911 dispatchers advised that two male subjects had run from the car, a 2000 Mazda, that caused the crash. Gotchy said.

A sheriff’s office K-9 team responded to assist in the extensive search of the area, which found the two males on Highway 126, trying to get into a taxi, the sergeant said. He added that Oregon State Police assisted in the search and investigation.

The driver, who the agency did not identify, was arrested and lodged in the county’s juvenile detention center, and his car was towed from the scene.

There were minor injuries to a female passenger in the 2001 Subaru Legacy that was struck, but she refused treatment at the scene.
