Project Connect still seeking volunteers
A team of more than 800 volunteers will join forces to provide free medical, dental and social services at Project Connect to be held at the Hooker Creek Arena, Deschutes County Fairgrounds, on Saturday, September 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Redmond.
Since its inception five years ago, the one-day, one-stop event has helped to reach nearly 12,000 individuals in Central Oregon who are homeless, on a low income, or simply struggling to make ends meet.
In addition to medical care and mental health services, Project Connect offers urgent dental care, legal aid, birth certificate services, housing and shelter information, financial counseling, children’s services, haircuts, addiction services, veteran’s education, first aid, immunizations, clothing and two hot, healthy meals, at no cost.
A project of Volunteer Connect, Project Connect is spearheaded by the many volunteers who support it each year, including 25 volunteer leaders and more than 150 service organizations and community business partners.
Last year’s Project Connect at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds drew more than 3,400 guests who were homeless or underserved in counties throughout the region, including Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson, as well as the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs.
“This tremendous undertaking could not be possible without the support of our partners and community leaders who take on the challenge with vigor and passion,” said Shellie Campbell, the Project Connect Coordinator. “We are extremely proud to work with these individuals who stand behind the mission to end homelessness and poverty within our communities.”

Volunteer Connect is a non-profit organization that serves as the Central Oregon Volunteer Center. Volunteer Connect works to bring volunteers together with local community organizations that need support.
