Funds raised for four-legged Bend Police members
Crux Fermentation Project held a fund-raiser for the four-legged Bend Police members Sunday. The event was the Police K-9 Unit Barbecue, where all the proceeds will benefit the dogs.
Central Oregon Community College members helped put on the event. Families and kids came out to meet and pet two of the patrol dogs on the force. Officers say fundraisers like this one are crucial because to add three new K-9’s and vehicles will cost the station over $156,000.
“Ranger is a bloodhound — he’s training in ‘man trailing,’ which is to go out and actively look for lost or missing people, as well as fugitives,” said Officer Kyle Voll, Ranger’s owner.
“Then we’ll have one dope dog coming on our staff here in a short period of time, and another one to follow, hopefully, based on the level of donations in the next year or so,” Voll added.
