SW Redmond residents home after evacuation

KTVZ

A severed natural gas line at a home site in southwest Redmond Friday morning prompted the precautionary evacuation of several homes within a one-square-block radius.

Redmond Fire Marshal Traci Cooper said an excavator severed a 4-inch natural gas service line shortly after 11 a.m. at 2021 SW 41st St., a property owned by Crystal Park Construction LLC near Quartz Avenue.

Cooper said the workers on the construction site had done a “locate” for utility lines before digging, so officials were not sure what went wrong.

Cascade Natural Gas was on scene, along with two fire engines on standby, and a one-block area was evacuated, Cooper said.

Cooper said people were allowed to return home after the leak gas line was clamped off; a resident said that was just before 1 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

John Brand of the utility told news partner KBND repairs would be completed by the end of the day.
