KTVZ

Sunnyside Montessori is a new, independent Montessori school using the Montessori approach for elementary students ages 5 through 9.

Sunnyside is the first Montessori elementary program in Bend. The intent is to build a traditional Montessori elementary program that serves students ages 6 through 12, according to owners Jessica Born and Louise Wilson.

The mission at Sunnyside Montessori is to cultivate the human potential in an authentic Montessori program. At the school, students demonstrate a respect and love for themselves, others and their world.

The school is starting with one classroom, located at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Bend. The school is conveniently located near the Deschutes County Library, the Boys and Girls Club, and the downtown business community. They are currently enrolling students for kindergarten, first and second grade.

An open house for the school will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday, August 28th. Prospective families and interested community members will have the opportunity to see the classroom and meet the Sunnyside Montessori staff.

The school day at Sunnyside goes from 8:30am to 3:30pm, and follows closely the Bend La Pine Schools 2012-2013 calendar. The first day of classes will be Wednesday, September 5, 2012.
