Prineville woman appointed to COCC board

Laura Craska Cooper of Prineville has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Central Oregon Community College.

The COCC Board made the appointment at a special meeting held on Tuesday.

Cooper will represent Zone 2 of the College District, which consists primarily of Crook County. She will be sworn in at the next Board of Directors meeting, scheduled for Sept. 12.

Cooper replaces Dr. Joyce Lynn Garrett, who resigned last month, and will serve through June 30, 2013. The position in one of four COCC Board openings that will then be filled by election on the May 2013 ballot.

“I live in a community where the economy is top of mind for everyone,” Cooper said. ” A strong community college is vital to rebuilding and diversifying our economy. COCC’s record of innovation and educational leadership is providing the building blocks for economic recovery and future expansion, and I’m thrilled to be joining the team that is making that happen.”

COCC Board positions open on the May 2013 ballot include Zone 1, which in mostly Jefferson County; Zone 2, primarily Crook County; Zone 3, the city of Redmond and surrounding precincts; and Zone 4, one of three positions which represents the city of Bend and precincts in the surrounding areas.
