KTVZ

Redmond School Board member Jim Erickson announced Tuesday that he is resigning, effective Dec. 31.

Erickson was a teacher in the Redmond School District for 31 years and retired in 2004. Erickson continues to teach at Central Oregon Community College and has served on the Redmond School Board since July 2006.

“We are very thankful for the many years of service Jim has provided our district,” said Superintendent Mike McIntosh. “We hope he will continue to share his passion and experience with us as we move forward to improve academic achievement.

“At this point in our district’s journey,” Erickson stated, “I feel I may be more useful working to support the district as it moves forward in its commitment to increase rigor and relevance in the classroom.”

The school board soon will be taking applications for the upcoming vacancy. They will appoint a replacement until elections in May 2013.
