La Pine woman killed, 2 men hurt in crash
A 28-year-old La Pine woman was killed and two men were injured in a two-vehicle crash on La Pine State Rec Road Saturday afternoon, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
County 911 dispatchers got a call shortly before 4 p.m. reporting the crash on La Pine State Rec Road, just west of Huntington Road, said sheriff’s Sgt. Joe DeLuca.
Deputies assisted by La Pine fire medics arrived to find Candis Connolly, 28, trapped in her green 1995 Saturn SL, DeLuca said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Connolly’s passenger, Justice Scoons, 20, of La Pine was flown by AirLink helicopter to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend, DeLuca said. A nursing supervisor said he was in fair condition early Sunday.
Guy Tavares, 48, also of La Pine, the driver of the other vehicle, a black 2002 GMC pickup, was taken by ambulance to the Bend hospital, where the nursing supervisor said he was treated and released.
The crash and investigation shut La Pine State Rec Road for about two hours.
DeLuca said late Saturday night that “the cause and manner of this accident are still being investigated.”
Later Saturday, a two-car crash in Bend, at the intersection of Highway 97 and Cooley Road, sent one person to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Oregon State Police said. The crash around 7 p.m. involved a car heading south on the highway and an SUV heading east on Cooley Road. Air bags deployed in both vehicles, troopers said.
