KTVZ

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon will receive a $3,000 donation from Life Timeā€“The Healthy Way of Life Company and producers of the LeadmanTri Life Time Epic 125/250 Bend. The funds will help keep 1,452 local kids moving and active.

“We arevery grateful to be the beneficiary of such an epic athletic event,” said Lisa Maxwell, executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon. “At the Clubs, programs like Triple Play, Girls on the Run, and Healthy Habits are helping to get youth involved in physical activities and learning healthy habits.

“We share the same vision with the LeadmanTri Bend and Life Time Fitness, which is to reduce growing waistlines and disease as we help our community fall in love with athletics and sports.”

The money comes from registration fees for the event’s LeadmanTri Relay Challenge, all of which were donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon.

Truly unique, the LeadmanTri hosted more than 400 racers on challenging 125- or 250-kilometer courses through the area’s awe-inspiring mountain terrain. The race featured nearly 5,000 feet of climbing and a peak elevation of 6,200 feet on one of the most beautiful and challenging triathlon courses in the world.

About LeadmanTri

The Leadman. A legend carved from the Rocky Mountains outside Leadville, Colorado. A boomtown gone bust, overrun by extreme athletes fueled by a dream. A dream of pushing past logic, past hope ā€” to push themselves to the finish of some of the most difficult athletic events ever created. A dream so unbelievable ā€” to compete in a series of epically hard events, covering hundreds of miles of rugged, off-road terrain ā€” that these athletes sign on, not for a chance at glory or riches, but for a chance to forever be known as a “Leadman.”

Today the legend of epic hard endurance events expands beyond the Leadville city limits, with the Leadman Tri ā€” Life Time EPIC 125 and 250. The Leadman is an all-new category in triathlons, as contestants now face an epic new total distance of 250 kilometers. It throws down a gauntlet of challenge filled with new lengths of swimming and cycling, yet places less emphasis on what is considered the most physically damaging aspect of ultra-distance triathlons, the run. The Leadman was designed to completely challenge triathletes while showing utmost respect to their bodies.
