Fugitive runs, is caught in northeast Bend

A Bend man, on the run since eluding police after a high-speed chase in early August, ran from a northeast Bend traffic stop Saturday afternoon, but was caught after a foot chase during which he allegedly threw items away, including a knife and some methamphetamine, officers said.

A woman was arrested in a resulting raid at a northwest Bend motel, they added.

Shortly before 2 p.m., officers were dispatched to check the area of Del Taco near SE Third Street and Wilson Avenue for a wanted felon, identified as Timothy Bryan, 24, said Lt. Brian Kindel.

Officers had received information indicating he was a passenger in a black Lincoln Navigator, Kindel said.

Police found the vehicle heading north on Third Street, and it was pulled over near Third and Marshall, at which point Bryan jumped out and ran toward the Red Carpet North car-wash facilities, Kindel said.

Officers chased Bryan on foot and said they saw him throwing items away, including a knife, as he fled, the lieutenant said. He was captured near the corner of Third Street and Greenwood Avenue.

A “moderate amount” of methamphetamine also was found to have been discarded by Bryan as he tried to escape, Kindel said.

The investigation led to the execution of a search warrant at the Bend Riverside Motel, 1565 NW Hill St., Kindel said.

At that location, Lily Santulli, 29, also of Bend, was arrested on charges of drug possession and a probation violation. Kindel said marijuana and methamphetamine were seized during the raid.

There were no inuries during the incident, Kindel said.

Back in early August, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said Bryan was at the wheel of a Volvo that failed to signal at a stop sign in Redmond, then refused to pull over, heading north on Highway 97 at speeds of 90 mph at times. Eventually, the driver tried to flee by driving onto the railroad tracks, deputies said, but the car became high-centered on the tracks.

Bryan ran, deputies said, but passenger Esaui Mutchler of Madras was taken into custody without incident. He was wanted on a statewide felony warrant for parole violation.

Bryan was lodged Saturday at the Deschutes County Jail on charges of drug possession, carrying a concealed weapon and attempting to elude a police officer on foot. He was held without bail on a parole violation charge related to an earlier burglary conviction, Kindel said.

Santulli was held on a drug possession charge and probation violation.
