Bend Spay-Neuter Project reaches milestone
Bend Spay and Neuter Project is proud to announce that it has reached a major milestone in the organization’s history. On October 10th, Bend Spay and Neuter Project Veterinarian Dr. Linx Alexanderson performed the organization’s 30,000 th surgery since its inception in 2005.
Bend Spay and Neuter Project performs spay and neuter surgeries for pet cats, dogs and also feral, or undomesticated cats.
The 30,000 th surgical patient was a 2 year old Dachshund mix named “Dauby”. Dauby was a typical Bend Spay and Neuter Project patient; his owner was a college student who did not have a lot of extra money.
She wanted to have him neutered to help prevent behavioral issues and to ensure he did not create any accidental litters, but couldn’t afford to take him to a regular veterinarian for the service, which often costs upwards of $200. Bend Spay and Neuter Project was able to perform the surgery for just $70.
As a 501c3 non-profit organization, Bend Spay and Neuter Project is funded primarily by individual donations, which allow them to provide this service at a lower cost.
By providing low-cost spay and neuter services, Bend Spay and Neuter Project enables people who are lower income to provide basic care for their beloved pets, as well as preventing accidental litters of puppies and kittens from being born and ending up in local shelters.
