Two new Bend roundabouts set to open

The intersections of Brookswood Blvd. and Powers Rd. and 18th St. and Empire Ave. are reopening to traffic over the next few days, with two new roundabouts in place, Bend officials said Thursday.

Brookswood Blvd. and Powers Rd. will reopen on Friday at 1 p.m. while 18th St. and Empire Ave. will re-open next Tuesday at 1 p.m.

The four-month closures were required for the construction of new, single lane roundabouts, both part of the voter-approved transportation General Obligation (G.O.) Bond program.

The 2011 G.O. Bond measure authorized $30 million for seven separate projects that were selected based on known safety and congestion issues, geographic location, and the opportunity to provide local construction jobs.

Any artwork in the new roundabouts will be installed separately by the “Art in Public Places” organization.
