Bend boy chops off long hair for Locks of Love

Most days, a 4th grader getting a hair cut — not that big of a deal.

But when a Bend boy has been growing it out for more than a year, people tend to notice.

On Tuesday, Josh Groth, a student at Bear Creek Elementary, had 10 inches of hair chopped off to donate to Locks of Love. The hair will be used to make wigs for children with cancer and other illnesses.

Josh said he traded long and wavy for short and choppy because it’s the season of giving, and he wants to help.

“The kids with cancer are going through a rough time, and I’m kind of having it easy, so I thought, ‘Why not give them a little break?’ That, to me, is a wonderful experience,” Groth said.

Josh said he might grow it all back out again –so we’ll check back in with him in another year or so.
