Tips sought in Prineville fuel truck theft
Crook County sheriff’s deputies said Friday they are seeking tips from the public in hopes of recovering a 1,000-gallon diesel fuel tank and trailer stolen from a Prineville-area Hooker Creek job site late last month.
Deputies were called to a location off Bus Evans Road north of Madras Highway on the report of the stolen fuel tank, mounted on a bumper pull-type trailer, deputies said.
Based on evidence, investigators said someone entered the job site on Nov. 28, and used a vehicle to back up to the trailer and steal it.
The suspect pickup is described as a light-colored single-cab pickup with dark door handles and a toolbox in the back.
The stolen trailer was a Black Morgan Built 16-foot tandem-axle flatbed trailer, they said. The fuel tank is white, with the paint peeling off.
The tank contained 1,000 gallons of off-road diesel, and there was an industrial-size pump affixed to the rear of the trailer, deputies said, adding that the value of all the stolen items, including fuel, is estimated at $10,000.
