Central Oregonians join in ’26 Acts of Kindness’

Last week’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School prompted NBC’s Ann Curry to take to Twitter. She challenged her followers to commit to “26 Acts of Kindness” in honor of those victims, and a social media movement was born.

People across the nation have been taking part in the “26 Acts,” including right here in Central Oregon.

A few days ago, a woman brought presents to the staff of the Humane Society of Central Oregon and left gifts of dog biscuits and money for the shelter to give to future adopters.

Another woman, who calls herself “Bouncy Poodle,” donated 26 Pet Express gift cards to the Humane Society to for the next 26 adoptions.

“The surprise on people’s faces,when they receive these, and some of the adopters are in tears, because they are familiar with the 26 Acts, ” shelter Community Outreach Manager Lynne Ouchida said Saturday. ” To be a recipient of one of those random acts of kindness is just amazing.”
