Prineville pair arrested in theft raid

A raid Monday morning on a northwest Prineville home brought the arrest of two residents and recovery of a stolen gun and motorcycle, police said.

Prineville police and Crook County sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant shortly before 8 a.m. at 4035 NW Brookfield Lane, said Police Chief Eric Bush.

The search “was for evidence of multiple thefts and burglaries that have occurred in Prineville,” Bush said in a news release.

Six guns, one of which was stolen, was seized from the home, as well as a motorcycle stolen from Deschutes County and a small amount of marijuana, the police chief said.

William Michael Babcock, 39, was booked into the county jail on charges of first-degree theft, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property by receiving, in connection with the gun. Taylor Lee Hurt, 29, faces the latter two charges as well.

Both later were released under the county jail’s matrix formula due to crowding, a deputy said.

The investigation is continuing, Bush said, and more charges are expected.
