More road, trail closures on Ochoco NF

Starting January 16, there will be additional temporary road and trail closures on the Ochoco National Forest. The additional closure will close Forest Service Road 42 East of the junction with Lookout Mountain Trailhead seven days a week instead of five days a week.

Also, sections of snowmobile trails east of the junction of Forest Service Road 4210 and Forest Service Road 22, as shown on the closure map, will be closed seven days a week.

Currently, Forest Service Road 42 is closed during the week day and Forest Service Road 4210 and sections of snowmobile trails North of Forest Service Road 42 are closed seven days a week.

These closures are in place because of public safety concerns with added logging activity in the area.

These temporary road and trail closures are in effect because of public safety concerns with log trucks hauling logs on narrow, icy, and snowy roads. Signs and maps will be posted and a temporary barricade will be placed at the junction of Forest Service Road 22 and Forest Service Road 42.

During the weekends when Forest Service Road 42 is open, the public can still expect log trucks hauling material. Signs will be posted along Forest Service Road 42. Please use caution and drive slowly when traveling in this area.

Forest Service Road 42 will remain open during the two holidays: Martin Luther King, January 21, and Presidents Day, February 18.

Other snowmobile trails on the Ochoco National Forest are still open and can be accessed from the Walton Sno-Park. Forest Service Road 22, which access Walton Sno-Park will remain open and continue to be plowed.

These temporary road and trail closures will be lifted after operations are completed. These dates are subject to change at a short notice based on weather conditions.
