OSP: Newport man killed Beaverton teen, then self
A 16-year-old Beaverton teen was shot to death, her body found along a highway east of Tillamook late Friday night — and the Newport man believed to have killed her apparently shot and killed himself Saturday along the Northern California coast, Oregon State Police said Sunday.
A multi-agency investigation determined that Kayla Ann Hendrickson died of gunshot wounds, said OSP Lt. Gregg Hastings.
Sunday night, the Tillamook County Major Crime Team and Humboldt County, Calif., Sheriff’s Office identified the man who apparently shot himself and died Saturday in Humboldt County as Jacob Allen Green, 24, of Newport.
Hastings said Green was driving a pickup truck that matched the description of one sought in connection with the discovery of Hendrickson’s body on Highway 6 about 18 miles east of Tillamook.
Green knew Hendrickson, Hastings said, “and is allegedly believed to be the only suspect involved in her death.”
Around 10:15 p.m. Friday, a witness saw a late 1980s to early 1990s full-size pickup stopped on the north shoulder of the westbound lane of Highway 6, Hastings said. Two people, a man and woman, were seen along the highway near the stopped pickup, he added.
About 25 minutes later, the witness contacted a Tillamook police officer, advising of “suspicious circumstances” along the highway, about two miles east of Jordan Creek Road. An OSP trooper responded and found the teen’s body along the highway.
The Tillamook County Major Crime Team is comprised of members from Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, Tillamook Police Department, Manzanita Police Department, Oregon State Police, and Tillamook County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation is continuing.
