Redmond schools offer choice at open enrollment

KTVZ

The Redmond School District board of directors has voted to be a receiving district during open enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year.

This is the second year the district has chosen to participate in open enrollment since the adoption of Oregon House Bill 3681.

The law, which went into effect last year, allows students to transfer to school districts outside of their legal residence if a student receives written consent from the receiving district.

Students already enrolled at RSD may also request to transfer to a different school than what has been assigned to them. The open transfer request period for grades K-12 is March 1 through April 1.

Redmond Schools will be hosting public informational sessions for parents and students who desire to transfer within or to Redmond Schools. The first session will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 12 at the Ridgeview High School auditorium. The second session will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 18 in the Redmond High School auditorium.

“The district believes that every family should have the opportunity to choose among quality schools,” said Mike McIntosh, RSD Superintendent. “We’re honored to offer students the ability to tailor their academic needs through school choice.”

For questions about open enrollment to Redmond Schools, please contact the district office at 541-923-5437. Students wanting to transfer to RSD must contact and notify their home district first. Transfer forms and other information are available online at www.redmond.k12.or.us.
