Salem police: Woman arrested in hoax ‘kidnap’

A police search for a possibly abducted Salem woman took a 180-degree turn Sunday when officers said they determined the phone call was a hoax, and arrested her for filing a false police report.

What’s more, police said Roaxnna Marie Long, 28, had an outstanding warrant on hit-and-run charges out of Yreka, Calif.

Long was found safe by Marion County sheriff’s deputies around 4:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Brooklake Rd NE.

Police had sought the public’s help earlier Sunday in finding Long, saying she might be held against her will at an unknown location.

They said she was last seen in downtown Salem on Friday afternoon. Officers said she was last heard from around 8 p.m. on Saturday, when she supposedly called relatives and told them she was being held in a building. Then the phone line was disconnected.

Salem officers, assisted by Marion County deputies, Keizer police and Oregon State Police troopers, had been checking in the area, based on information received during the investigation. She was not found at that time, but they later found her at a home in the area.

Officers said Long had fabricated the phone call to relatives on Saturday evening and was staying with an acquaintance in the area.

Long was taken into custody and was charged with initiating a false report and first-degree disorderly conduct.
