4 hurt in Prineville, Redmond car-pedestrian crashes

Four people went to the hospital but escaped serious injuries Wednesday morning in a pair of unrelated car-pedestrian collisions in Prineville and Redmond, police said.

In Prineville, around 7:45 a.m., a 17-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl were struck by a car when they stepped onto SE Lynn Boulevard near Crook County High School.

Capt. Michael Boyd said a group of teens were on the east side of the road when the pair “decided they wanted to cross the road to a dirt alley.”

“They were in the bike lane, claimed they looked but didn’t see her,” and were struck by a car reportedly going about 20 or 25 mph, Boyd said.

Both teens were taken to Pioneer Memorial Hospital. Boyd said the boy had an abrasion and the girl suffered a possible broken wrist.

“We’re real glad both weren’t hurt worse,” he said. “The others saw a car coming and didn’t cross (the street).”

The 39-year-old woman driving the car also was unhurt. Boyd said the investigation was continuing, and no citations had been issued. Any witnesses with information to share were asked to call police at 541-447-4168.

Shortly before 10 a.m., in southwest Redmond, a 72-year-old woman at the wheel of an SUV on Odem Medo Way was stopped, preparing to turn right onto northbound Canal Boulevard,, said Sgt. Jesse Petersen.

When the light turned green, so did a pedestrian walk signal, and a 29-year-old woman and her 3-year-old daughter began crossing at the crosswalk, Petersen said.

The mother was struck by the SUV, but her daughter apparently was not, though both were taken by ambulance to St. Charles-Redmond for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Petersen said.

That investigation also was continuing, and no citations had been issued, the sergeant said.
