The Wanoga Sno-Park was packed Saturday morning, as dog sled teams took advantage of the good conditions for the fourth annual Bachelor Butte Dog Derby.
About 30 sled dog and skijoring teams gathered at the sno-park to take part in the race, all of them racing anywhere from five to 25 miles.
The youngest competitor in Saturday’s competition is 12 years old, but she says she has no problem racing against the big dogs.
“When you’re at kind of the starting line, when they start to count 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… you get really nervous,” said dog sled racer Kensington Myers. “The dogs are pumped, and it’s just a lot of fun.”
Myers said she had to get special permission to participate in the event, since the starting age to race is usually 14.
The races will continue Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at the Wanoga Sno-Park off of Century Drive. Find more information here: http://psdsa.org/Races/BachelorButte.aspx
