Hoodoo’s spring bounty: It’s all about the ‘pow’
Spring break has officially begun, pushing many people to ski resorts around Central Oregon. Friday was a beautiful day at Hoodoo Ski Resort, full of fresh powder.
With nearly 10 inches of new snow, skiers and snowboarders were rejoicing.
“Oh it’s awesome,” said Craig Mason. “You know, a lot of people might want to be at the beach, but I’d rather be up here.”
“It’s a great way to start spring break,” said Janson Richardson.
For some people, it was their first time hitting the slopes.
“I’ve never been before,” said Parker Wynn, who was celebrating his 13th birthday on the mountain. “*It’s just kind of fun doing it.”
Wynn said he had one goal to conquer by the end of the day.
“Make it down a hill without falling,” Wynn laughed.
Then there was one guy who said he was making the best out of kind of a bad situation.
“My wife has a torn ACL and my son is sick,” said Erik Hoefer. “So it’s all me. Ha-ha.”
The sunshine peeking through the clouds was enough to bring the whole family out.
“The weather is perfect, too,” said Crystal Teters. “We saw the weather and we couldn’t wait. We just had to come up.”
The conditions were great enough for mountain-goers to invest in a season pass.
“I had one guy say it was the best day ever, and he’s in there buying a season pass right now,” said mountain Manager Jim Follis.
While many people around the country might be hitting pool or the beach for spring break, many Central Oregonians said they prefer the powder.
“In the Northwest, I would rather be up on the mountain, seriously,” said Teters. “Especially on a day like this. It’s just perfect.”
“We got great powder here today,” said Hoefer. “I’m just loving it.”
A season pass at Hoodoo costs $299 for adults and $149 for juniors. The pass lets people ski through the spring season and into next winter. At Mt. Bachelor, spring passes are selling fast. It’ll cost you $169 for adults and kids start at $99.
