Driver who ran into Bend business cited for DUII
A 62-year-old Bend man suffered only minor injuries but faces DUII charges after smashing his car into a printing business on SE Third Street Sunday morning, police said.
Police responded shortly before 10 a.m. to the reported crash into Minuteman Press at 875 SE Third Street, near the corner of Third and McKinley Avenue.
The driver, identified as Richard Duane Johnson, was heading north on Third Street and was going about 45 to 50 mph according to a witness before crashing into the building, Bend police Lt. Chris Carney said Tuesday.
The Toyota Prius crashed into the side of the building, plowing down part of the front wall. Fortunately, the business is closed on Sundays, so no one was inside.
Johnson was taken to St. Charles-Bend for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Carney said.
“The officer came to the conclusion that Johnson was impaired and cited and released him for DUII” due to his injuries, Carney said.
A blood-alcohol test was taken, Carney said, but the results won’t be known for some time.
