Redmond middle school thanks Lowe’s

KTVZ

Obsidian Middle School has presented Lowe’s of Redmond with a handmade long board made by middle school students in the Community Learning Center program.

Lowe’s Home Improvement of Redmond donated more than $300 worth of tools and supplies to the school’s Build Your Own Long Board after-school class. Nearly 30 students have been able to use the tools to craft their own personal board since the beginning of January.

“We’re so thankful to Lowe’s for their support,” shared Greg Bridges, who teaches the long board building class. “Their donation has allowed our students to stay engaged in healthy, creative activities after school.”

The class is part of the Community Learning Center program that Redmond School District offers in five district schools. The district’s CLCs offer before and after-school programs to children, families and individuals living in neighborhoods that have limited access to resources. The program has served more than 1,700 individuals with academic intervention, art and music programs, athletics, parenting classes and several other opportunities.

“This enrichment activity in particular generated considerable excitement among our students,” saidLindsay Garlington, Community Learning Center Coordinator at Obsidian Middle School. “This class offered students the safety and convenience of being at school combined with the affordability that we try to offer to all participants in the CLC program. This wouldn’t be possible without our valuable partnership with Lowe’s.”
