Mountain biker injured west of Bend

A Bend man was injured in a mountain bike crash on the “Voodoo” trail west of Bend Thursday evening and brought out by rescuers, then taken to the hospital, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

Shortly before 7 p.m., 911 dispatchers got a report of the injured rider, identified as Mark Quinlan, 46, on the trail south of Skyliners Road, said Deputy Liam Klatt, assistant Search and Rescue coordinator.

Deputies and sheriff’s SAR personnel responded to the scene, in the Phil’s Trail system.

An initial investigation found that Quinlan was riding down the trail and his bike went out from under him while negotiating a turn in the trail, Klatt said, adding that the rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

SAR crews assessed and stabilized Quinlan at the scene, and he was taken by wheeled litter about a half-mile to Skyliners Road. A Bend fire ambulance took him to St. Charles-Bend, where he was listed in fair condition Friday morning.
