Fuel tanker truck overturns, Hwy. 27 partly blocked
Oregon Highway 27 about 3 miles south of Prineville will be partially blocked for a few hours following Monday morning’s rollover crash involving a tanker truck transporting diesel and gasoline, Oregon State Police said.
The driver was not injured and there is no indication fuel leaked from the overturned tanker, troopers said.
According to OSP Sgt. Keith Taylor, shortly before 10 a.m., a 1999 Kenworth tanker truck driven by Donald Hurt, 63, of Prineville was southbound on Highway 27 near milepost 3.
The driver reportedly was reaching for an object when the truck traveled off the side of the highway and overturned onto its side, Taylor said.
The tanker contained about 4,000 gallons of diesel and 900 gallons of gas.
Emergency personnel from Crook County Fire & Rescue, Oregon Regional Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team 13, SMAF Environmental, Crook County Sheriff’s Office, ODOT and OSP responded to the scene.
Another tanker from Miller Oil was called to the scene and the fuel was being off-loaded to the second tanker before the vehicle was turned upright again.
OSP troopers from the Prineville work site are conducting the investigation.
